Proposed Hebrew-language charter school in Edison rejected again | NJ.com: "I guess we’ll reapply," Tikun Olam Hebrew Charter High School petitioner Sharon Akman said. "I would like some guidance from them as to what needs to be done."
Tikun Olam was slated to open in Edison in fall 2011. Officials from neighboring school districts opposed the charter school, fearing it would drain students from their districts and add to budget problems.
"We can’t afford it," said Edison school board president Gene Maeroff said. Edison estimated losing 40 to 50 students at a cost of about $500,000. Tikun Olam, which translates into "healing of the world," aimed to attract students from three towns — Edison, New Brunswick and Highland Par"

Zamir Choral Foundation: "aZamir sponsors regional retreats, where chapters meet, rehearse together, and grow in friendship.  The HaZamir Annual Festival brings chapters and participants from each HaZamir across the country and Israel for a two-day festival, culminating in a gala concert at a major venue in New York City.  Individuals, many of whom sing, but not in a Jewish choir or context, attend and find an entrance to a Jewish choral experience.  HaZamir alumni return and perform at the Festival, and a select group of teen singers of a higher ability perform in the HaZamir Chamber Choir. ADL calls on Calif. councilwoman to resign | JTA - Jewish & Israel News: " that she had compared to Hitler, the Anti-Defamation League said.

Claudia Alvarez, the council's mayor pro tem, invoked Hitler last week during a debate on a tax for downtown property owners in comments directed at Irving Chase, the son of Holocaust survivors who owns several blocks of downtown property. 

"Hey, so if Hitler rents you a place, he's giving us a great deal, so who cares what he stands for?" she said. 

Her statements reinforced an anti-Semitic sentiment that Jews are greedy, the Orange County chapter of the Anti-Defamation League charged and called on her to apologize."
