Tzadikim who left during Elul

Tzadikim who left during Elul: "it is good just to say the Name of a Tzadik. Of course the more one learns about each individual Tzadik strengthens ones connection to that Tzadik and assists in the Channel of connection between you and he/she. As we develop more information about a particular Tzadik his or her name will appear as a Link. Otherwise it will just be listed below the date.

One spiritual ritual recommended by Rabbi Nachtman of Breslov is to say the Names of the Tzadikim starting with Adam and Chava and continuing until today. This list will be added as a link when it is available. In the meantime try doing this ritual with the Names of all the Tzadikim who passed in an Hebrew month."

Tzadikim who left during Elul

Tzadikim who left during Elul: "Isaac was the author of 518 responsa, to which great halakic value is attached by men like Joseph Caro, Jacob Berab, and many others. They are also of great historical importance as reflecting the conditions of Jewish life in the fourteenth century. In some of them are to be found details of the author's life; but unfortunately it is impossible to trace these chronologically, the original order of the responsa having been altered by the editors.

Although Isaac was very strict in his halakic decisions, he was far from being narrow-minded. He has nothing to say against secular knowledge; he disapproves the study of Aristotle only because the latter professed belief in the eternity of matter and denied God's providence. Isaac's responsa evidence a profound knowledge of the philosophical writings of his time. In one of them (No. 118) He explains the difference between the opinion of Levi ben Gershom (Ralbag) and that of Abraham ben David of Posquières (RABaD) on free will, and gives his own views on that complicated subject. His attitude to kabbalah was ambivalent. He advised against involving oneself with it unless one has received it from an adept; since he had not done so, he wrote, he could not address its claims."

How to Aliyah

How to Aliyah: move to the other side of the reader to make room for the next person called to the Torah. Having blessed the Torah, you are now honored with being invited to stay at the reading table for the next aliyah. At this time, or perhaps after the next aliyah, or even after all the aliyot, one of the gabbaim (the people at the reading table who assist the reader) will read a prayer called a Mi Shebeirach ("The One Who Blessed..."). If this is done while you are standing at the reading table, you will be asked for your Hebrew name, which may be given in the form: [Your name] ben/bat [your mother's name] and [your father's name]. You may use the name of only one parent if you so choose. When the next aliyah is completed, you may return to your seat. It is customary to take a longer route back to your seat than that which you took to ascend to the bima, signifying your reluctance at leaving the Torah.

How to Aliyah

How to Aliyah: Hence it is important to be familiar with the ritual of the aliyah and practice reciting the blessing aloud prior to the occasion, if the blessing is not familiar to you. Here you will find a complete description to help you. Please keep in mind that there are variations in custom in different congregations, and it is appropriate to follow minhag ha-makom (the custom of the place in which you are). Please also note that the term "aliyah" refers not only to the honor of being called to bless the Torah, but to the section of text which is read between the blessings you will recite.

In most congregations, it is customary to wear a tallit when called to the Torah.

Ten things created at dusk at the end of the first Friday.
Ten generations from Adam to Noah and from Noah to Abraham.
Ten kings ruled the whole world; Ten nations given to Abraham.
Ten pure animals; Ten categories of forbidden magic.
Ten battles of Joshua; Ten essential limbs of the body.

The Meaning of Chai (Symbol)

The Meaning of Chai (Symbol): Judaism is a religion that emphasizes the importance of life. Jews are encouraged to be good, ethical people (mensches) and enjoy the time they are given on Earth. A common Jewish toast is “l’chaim!,” which means, “to life!.” It is said at celebrations in anticipation of all the good things to come.

Because it means “life,” the Chai is consequently a symbol that captures an important aspect of Judaism. According to the gematria, which is a mystical tradition that assigns a numerological value to Hebrew letters, the letters Het (ח) and Yud (י) add up to the number 18.

Akhlah: The Hebrew Aleph-Bet - Learn Hebrew

Akhlah: The Hebrew Aleph-Bet - Learn Hebrew: Aleph Bet, the Hebrew Alphabet, has 22 letters (five of which appear in a different form at the end of a word) which are all consonants. Hebrew is written from right to left. During the years a system of vowels called nikud were added, but these are mostly seen in school books and prayer books. Newspapers, signs, magazines and most other printed materials in Israel today do not use nikud.

Take your first step in learning Hebrew by learning about the Aleph-Bet.
